The First Lesson 5 Minute Rule

All Regular Teachers will need to log in to the teaching platform and go in to their first lesson of the day at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time.

At the weekends, if Regular Teachers have lessons both in the morning/afternoon and in the evening (BJT), you will need to do the above twice. (Once before you begin teaching in the morning/afternoon, and once before you begin teaching in the evening.)

According to the data we have collected from teachers who have been logged as “late” for lessons by our system, 80% of them have been late for the first lesson of the day. This has happened even if they have already clocked in 30 minutes before they begin teaching.

The First Lesson

Log in to the platform and go into the lesson 5 minutes before the scheduled start time of your first booked lesson of the day. You do not need to do this before every slot, just the first.

For example, if you teach from 18.00-22.00 BJT on Monday nights, then you will need to clock in at least half an hour before your 18.00 lesson and then enter the classroom on the teaching platform no later than 17.55 BJT for your first scheduled lesson. You can enter the classroom for all subsequent lessons 2 minutes before the scheduled start time as normal.

Click Start Class to go in to the lesson, but only start teaching from the scheduled time.

Any failure to go into the classroom 5 minutes before the scheduled time for the first class of the day will forfeit the KPI incentive.

If you are working any morning/afternoon AND evening (BJT):

You need to clock-in TWICE per day. Also, you need to log in to the platform and go into the lesson 5 minutes before the scheduled time TWICE. (Once for the morning/afternoon lessons, and once for the evening lessons.)

For example, if you are teaching from 9.00 to 12.00 BJT on a Saturday and then again from 18.00 to 22.00 BJT that evening, please clock-in at least 30 minutes before your 9am lesson, and enter the classroom for that first lesson 5 minutes early. Do the same again for your 6pm class by clocking-in at least 30 minutes before and then entering the classroom on the platform five minutes before your 6pm lesson is scheduled to begin. The First Lesson Five Minute Rule applies to both time segments of your teaching day.

You need to follow the same protocol as outlined above if you teach in the afternoon and the evening. But if you teach in the morning, afternoon AND evening, you only need to do this before your first morning class and then again before your first evening class.

If you are a replacement teacher, and the first slot is an Available Slot, please check 14 minutes before the Available Slot to see if it has been booked. If it is booked, you will need to go into the lesson 5 minutes before the start of that slot.

First Lesson 5 Minute Auto-Reminder

An automatic reminder will be sent to teachers who haven’t gone into the classroom and clicked start class 5 minutes before the first class of the day.

This is the message you will receive via Dingtalk:

Dear teacher, your lessons scheduled at yyyy/mm/dd/hh:mm (Beijing Time) is about to start. Please log in immediately to avoid penalties and warnings. If there are difficulties logging in, please contact the On-call Operator to help.
