Lesson Memo / Reports
Writing memos is very important and quality rather than quantity is the key.
It is important to make your feedback individual to each child and mention their strengths and characteristics, so don’t rely too much on standardised feedback.
Please do not worry about being affected by pointing out student's problem. Pointing out students’ problems will help them make progress. Of course, the way you address your concern is also very important.
The Memo Consists of 4 Parts
These are pre-set by the system based on the course materials.
No input from the teacher is required
The items in ‘Learning Objectives’ should be used as a basis for areas to focus on.
The teacher should copy the relevant parts from the Learning Objectives and paste them into the box along with examples and samples.
Where necessary add advice and/or guidelines to help the parents help their children.
The teacher must make these memos specific without using complicated words.
**Remember** The students AND the parents read these memos.
In addition to the above, the teacher can list some further learning aspects which were noted during the lesson time. These could be any of the following, but not limited to:
• Sentence structure
• Spelling
• Fluency
• Pair-work
If necessary the teacher can add a brief note in the memo related to technical difficulties they encountered in the lesson. Such notes could relate to:
• Excessive background noise
• Student connection issues
• Parents controlling the lesson
• Lack of headset
As the title suggests this section relates to the student’s overall performance in the lesson, this can be attitude as well as ability.
Any negative points must be phrased as constructive criticism or given a positive spin. Remember these are young learners who need encouragement.
The teacher needs to make every comment personal by using the students name (either the name on the screen or the student’s log-in name used), in all instances he/his/him or she/her should be used and not ‘they.’
We do not want to dis-hearten students or show they have nothing left to learn either. As a general rule we do not give the students one star or five stars.
The teacher should always provide encouragement to low-level students and provide the drive to good students to ‘do better’.
Monthly A-Z Quiz Reports
Each month the students will have a “Reading A-Z Lesson Quiz”. At the end of the quiz the teacher is expected to complete the ‘Quiz Report’. This report is under the memo tab. It contains a checklist and a section for the teacher to type some personalized notes.
Ideally, this report should be completed immediately after the lesson. However, if there is limited time it can be completed later.
When should I submit the memos?
The memos must be completed and submitted no later than 10 hours after the completion of the lesson.
Remember to keep your wording simple, as it will be translated into Chinese. Try putting it in google translate and then translating it back to English. This gives a much better idea of how it comes across in Chinese.
If either the Lesson Memos or Quiz Reports are not completed within the 10-hour limit, the lesson will be classified as ‘incomplete.’
An incomplete lesson is unpaid.
In the unlikely event, the one or both students are late, the teacher should click the ‘late’ button, and a reminder will be sent to the student.
The teacher must remain in the class for the full 25 minutes with the camera open.
The lesson can begin as soon as one of the scheduled students attends.
The lesson will be paid (slot rate) in full.
